Photo Tours to Photo Safaris. Why The Shift In Focus.
Dave Burns Photo Tours is now Dave Burns Photo Safaris! After years of enabling travelers to experience the magic of an African safari, my company name now includes it.
The word safari means journey in Swahili. It evokes what travelers tell me they love most: my safaris are carefully shaped experiences where the logistics disappear into the background so that guests can fully engage with what’s unfolding around them. The quiet stillness of early morning in camp before the vehicles head out. A pride of lions moving through the grass at sunrise. A herd of elephants crossing a dry riverbed. A quiet evening back at camp, warming ourselves by the fire, reflecting on the day’s experiences.

Over the years I’ve spent a great deal of time in Africa building relationships with camps, guides, and local operators. Those partnerships matter. They help shape where you stay, how and when you travel across the landscape, and the quality of the experiences I’m able to create. A great safari depends on far more than simply choosing beautiful destinations. It requires coordination, trust, and people on the ground who care deeply about each traveler’s journey from the moment they arrive in Africa until the moment they depart.

Of course photography remains an important part of what I do which is why that part of my company name remains. Whether you join me on a guided safari or I help you plan the private safari of your dreams, I will make sure you are in the right place at the right moment, which drives a strong sense of presence and gives you the freedom to observe, appreciate, and capture what unfolds naturally. My new name better reflects the balance at the center of these trips: thoughtful safari design combined with the knowledge and guidance needed to help guests come home with meaningful photographs and memories.

Along with the new name, I’ve launched a redesigned website. My goal with the new site was simple: to give a clearer sense of what these safaris actually feel like. You’ll find more imagery, more details about destinations and camps, and a clearer look at each itinerary. The videos, photographs, and descriptions are meant to help you picture yourself there: driving across the savanna, watching the light change across the landscape, or quietly observing wildlife in its natural environment.
I’d love for you to join me on my next guided safari or custom private safari. Find out why 100% of my clients would book a Dave Burns Photo Safari again (and some have done just that!).
Safari njema,
Dave
