I’m excited to announce that I am in a two-person exhibit titled Photo-Technic opening in two weeks at the Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery on the North Fork of Long Island. Photo-Technic is about alternative photographic processes and all of my work in this exhibit is infrared photography from my photo tours to Tanzania. Gerry Giliberti is also in the exhibit and he is showing work created with the Lumen and Solar Plate Printing processes. You can see the official press release here.

At 1:30pm on Saturday, August 10, I will be the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Photographic Society of the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. My topic is digital infrared photography – something I have done a lot of lately on my African photo safaris. Both of the photographs in this post are infrared photographs and you can click here to see more of my infrared work.

I’ll show lots of photographs, how the infrared photography process works, and speak about some of the challenges involved. Although alternative processes always have a technical side, I’ll keep the jargon to a minimum.

My new photo safari to Tanzania in Fall 2013!

by Dave Burns | Posted in News | Tags: , , , ,

My new photo safari in October 2013 is now ready for sign ups (and there is a discount if you sign up before May 1st)! It’s a 10-night safari that hits the best locations in Tanzania’s northern circuit:

  • We start with 3 nights at a camp within Tarangire National Park. Tarangire does not have the name recognition that the Serengeti does but that just means fewer crowds. It is one of my favorite locations and I always come away with great images. It is full of beautiful landscapes and at this time of year is full of wildlife.

  • We then spend 3 nights at the Ngorongoro Crater – an ancient caldera considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The Crater is teeming with herd animals, birds, and of course, predators! On my last trip, we saw a pride of lions feasting on a freshly killed buffalo, sparring with jackals who wanted a piece of the prize.

  • After the amazing photographic opportunity of visiting a Maasai boma, we finish the trip with 3 nights in the legendary Serengeti. Our camp is in the midst of the kopjes – granite outcroppings that provide shade and views of the plains to the local cats.

Announcing Dave Burns Photo Tours!

by Dave Burns | Posted in News | Tags: ,

Here’s the big announcement recently sent out over email:

Hello, everyone!

I’m excited to announce the launch of my newest adventure: Dave Burns Photo Tours. This is an opportunity to share my love of adventure travel with other photographers, from aspiring to pro. My safari tours are different from most safaris out there because they are designed especially for photography. I’ve put a lot of thought and planning into it and my trips have unique features that cater to people who want a better experience. For example, a professional photographer guide, extra room in the vehicles with unobstructed views, access to power throughout the trip, etc. If you want more details on the differences, see my web-site below.

My first tour is in March 2013 to Tanzania where we’ll photograph wildlife in the Serengeti and other parks. I’m also leaving for Africa in a few weeks to scout a safari trip I’ll lead in fall of 2013. Please check out my web site for more info:

I can also run a private tour for a group to customize the experience. My standard itinerary is an outstanding value but if you want things like ultra-luxury private camps and flying from park to park instead of driving, I can work with you to design your dream safari.

My primary way of getting the news out is word-of-mouth so please forward this note along to anyone and everyone you think might be interested.

Safari njema (Safe travels),
Dave Burns
