Icons of Kenya

June 2023

Join me to see the best of Kenya’s wildlife, landscapes, and hospitality. Big cats in the Masai Mara’s savanna will thrill you and huge tuskers with Kilimanjaro in the Amboseli will leave you in awe.

Finish the safari by joining the optional extension to see the rhinos and other wildlife in the rolling hills of the Borana Conservancy.

Throughout the safari, you’ll enjoy gourmet food and luxurious accommodations.

Main Safari (8 nights):

After arriving in Nairobi, we recharge overnight at a comfortable hotel.

The following morning, we fly to the Masai Mara and spend 4 nights at a beautiful, permanent tented lodge with comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, and excellent meals. We’ll spend the next several days exploring the Mara on game drives with our expert guides. You’ll see a great variety of wildlife in the Mara but this area is most famous for big cats: lion, leopard, and cheetah.

We then fly to Amboseli National Park where we spend 3 nights at our comfortable lodge which is convenient to the areas where we’ll see the best wildlife. The primary goal is to see the huge families of elephants and the iconic, giant male tuskers as they roam the plains with Kilimanjaro in the background but we’ll also spend our time there spotting other wildlife such as cats, herd animals, and birds.

On the last morning, we fly from Amboseli back to Nairobi. For those leaving the group here, there’s a dayroom for you to relax before heading to the airport for your journey home.

Extension (3 nights):

The extension adds 3 nights in the Borana Conservancy which is best known for its successful conservation program resulting in a growing rhino population but it also contains the Big 5 and some species you won’t see in the Masai Mara.

We’ll spend our time exploring Borana with game drives to see both black and white rhino, lions, and families of cheetah but what makes Borana really special is the variety of activities. You can go horseback riding, hike with rangers as they do their morning survey of all of the rhinos, hike to a sunset viewpoint for G&Ts, relax at the pool midday and enjoy the views across the valley.

Their food is some of the best on safari in East Africa as they have access to a local organic farm with an amazing variety of fruits and vegetables, excellent locally grown livestock and poultry, and incredible talent in the kitchen.

On our last morning, we fly back to Nairobi where we can refresh in our dayrooms near the airport before our flight out.
